5 Characterisitcs An Entrepreneur Should Have

Anyone can start a business, regardless of his or her age.  But having a dream is one thing, acting on it, and continuous action and work is completely different.  After opening my business, EC Home Inspections.  I quickly got hit with the realities of just what it took to be an entrepreneur.  It's not for the faint of heart.n So I've put together a few characteristics you need to help you be successful.

1.  Passion-  I rise early every morning because I refuse to waste my day.  If you have a passion for your startup, this is what will drive you from dreaming to achieving.  Without that spark, you will lack the much needed motivation to put in all the early mornings and late nights to get your business off the ground.

2.  Perseverance-  To be an entrepreneur you must be able to deal with obstacles.  First of all, it is an obstacle, not a failure, not defeat, simply an obstacle.  A business does not get built overnight, and turning your idea into a reality will take time.  You will have to become accustomed to people saying no to you.  What makes a great entrepreneur?  Having the perseverance to grow regardless of how many times they get shut down or turned away.

Follow-up is key.  People may present plenty of excuses for not getting back in touch with you.  If you show persistence in trying to make things happen, you'll probably succeed.

3.  Resourcefulness-  A vital ability for an entrepreneur is making the best of what you got.  You most likely will not have many assets as a businessman, so use them to the fullest.

4.  Open-Mindedness-  As an entrepreneur, you may think you've zeroed in on a business plan, but you'll need to take in others opinions.  As Mark Cuban, infamous Owner of the Dallas Mavericks, and celebrated entrepreneur once said "Follow the green, not the dream".

5.  Spongelike Nature-  Being an entrepreneur involves a learning process.  If you're not willing to learn, you should think about leaving the startup world.  You must be able to soak in everything and anything you can, just like a sponge.  The more you learn, the better.

Entrepreneurship is much more than a 9-to-5 job.  I don't breathe without thinking about progressing my business.  I truly believe, if you have an idea you want to turn into a reality, go for it.  You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take.
